Information Higxel handles

The information depends on the features you use:

Sign-in information

If you sign in with Google, Higxel may receive your name, email address, profile image and Google account identifier.

Guest profile and device identifier

Higxel opens a pseudonymous guest profile automatically when you start without signing in. It uses a device-derived identifier. The app also sends this pseudonymous key with backend requests from guest and signed-in profiles so Higxel can apply shared device scan limits. The app hashes the identifier before sending it to Higxel, and the backend applies separate hashes before using it for guest identity and scan-limit records. Higxel does not receive your raw Android ID. The resulting identifiers help return you to the same guest profile on the same compatible device, enforce receipt-scan limits and prevent misuse.

Expenses and receipts

This includes receipt images you choose to scan, merchant and date details, items, prices, taxes, discounts, totals, categories, groups, notes, recurring expenses, budgets and the financial account used to pay.

Optional voice expense notes

If you choose Add by voice, Higxel handles the microphone recording, its transcript, detected language, and the expense details extracted from what you said. The app asks you to review separate expense drafts before anything is saved.

Financial accounts and personal loans

Account records include names and types, opening or current amounts, credit limits, amounts owed, and transfers between tracked accounts. Personal loan records can include the other person's name, whether you gave or took the loan, original and remaining amounts, dates, notes, repayment records, history status and optional reminder dates and times. Higxel may keep month-end balances so past net worth, assets and debt can be shown.

Income

This includes income source names, amounts, dates, linked accounts, recurring schedules and whether an entry is recorded, informational or scheduled.

Optional notification information

If you enable Smart Expense Suggestions, Higxel may process supported notification text, source app, time, merchant, amount and transaction details that appear related to an expense. Where limited-access Expense Automation is available, creating a rule also keeps the matching information and the title, category, and Paid from account you selected for future matches.

Connected services, analytics and diagnostics

This includes app settings, app version, cloud-sync status, product-usage and screen-interaction events (such as opening screens, starting sign-in, receipt processing, saving, and sync outcomes), basic app and device information, crash reports, error details and service logs needed to run, understand and support Higxel. Product analytics does not include receipt contents, merchant names, financial-account names, income names or transaction amounts.

03

How Higxel features process data

Guest mode

Guest mode lets you use Higxel without providing Google account information. Guest financial records use Higxel’s normal local and backend storage. They stay separate when you sign in unless you explicitly choose an available move. An eligible move transfers the selected guest expenses, the accounts used by those expenses, and any associated saved receipt images into the chosen Google profile; existing Google records remain in place. Moved expenses and accounts no longer appear in the guest profile. Some records cannot be moved yet, including expenses connected to recurring or other finance records, and the app will offer to keep those guest records separate. Signing in does not delete the guest profile or its remaining data. Operational backups may retain earlier copies for recovery and security.

A guest profile currently includes ten receipt scans per calendar month. A shared device allowance may also apply across guest and signed-in profiles on that device. Expense Suggestions and cross-device account access require Google sign-in. Device changes, factory resets, Android identifier changes or app-signing changes may prevent Higxel from finding an earlier guest profile.

Importing financial records

When you choose a CSV, XLSX, or JSON export in Import Data, Higxel reads and parses the selected file on your device. The full file is not uploaded. To identify its header and suggest column matches, Higxel securely sends only the first five non-empty parsed rows, plus basic file-type and sheet context, through its backend to OpenAI. To avoid creating duplicate categories, Higxel may also send unmatched unique imported category names together with your existing category names for conservative matching. If you choose a file from a cloud file provider, that provider may download it to your device under its own terms.

After you confirm the import, supported expense, income, account and category records are saved locally and use Higxel’s normal cloud synchronization and retention rules. Import usage events describe the action, outcome and record type, not your file contents or financial values. Importing financial records is separate from choosing a receipt image for scanning.

Receipt scanning and AI

When you take or choose a receipt photo, Higxel may read text on your device first. Depending on the extraction mode, the image or an optimized copy, recognized text, and related instructions may be sent through Higxel’s backend to OpenAI to return editable purchase details and suggested item categories. Higxel keeps reviewed corrections and related learning data to support quality checks and future improvements; storing a correction does not mean learning is active or that the next result will change. Receipt images are not copied into that correction history.

Smart item names is on by default and can be turned off in app settings. After you save or edit an expense, Higxel may organize its item names in the background, separately from receipt review. Previously learned identities can be reused without another AI call. For unfamiliar names, Higxel may send item names, merchant names, quantities and other product details through its backend to OpenAI to find relevant existing items and decide whether they belong together. This may include an OpenAI text-embedding request for product-name matching. Opening Insights reads saved data and does not itself start a paid AI request.

Higxel does not automatically send all older expenses for AI organization when you first open Insights or reinstall the app. You can separately choose a one-time catch-up for older saved expenses; new saves and edits follow the normal background process. Organized item identities and catch-up progress are stored with your profile on Higxel’s backend and cached on your device so they can be restored after sign-in or reinstall where supported. AI grouping can be incomplete or mistaken, so review important records and comparisons before relying on them.

Higxel may also run a separate, non-user-facing extraction to measure receipt accuracy. The result shown in the app still comes from the primary extraction. For this quality evaluation, Higxel may keep the two extracted results, model and timing details, token usage, validation results, and the expense details you later save. The comparison record does not contain another copy of the receipt image.

Voice expense entry

Voice expense entry starts only when you tap the microphone and grant Android microphone permission. Higxel sends the recording through its backend to Groq for speech-to-text, then sends the transcript and your available category names to Google Gemini to prepare up to ten editable expense drafts. A recording can contain several merchants; each returned draft is reviewed and saved as a separate expense. Higxel does not convert a spoken foreign-currency amount.

The app keeps a failed recording temporarily on your device only so you can retry it with the same request. It deletes that temporary file after a successful response, when you discard or replace it, or when you leave the voice-entry screen. Higxel does not save the audio as part of your expense record. The backend keeps completed results only in short-lived process memory to make immediate retries idempotent; provider processing is subject to the provider arrangements described below.

Receipt items and optional grouping

A scanned receipt saves together under the store or business name by default, with its item details and item categories. If you choose to group items, Higxel saves each group as a separate expense and keeps any remaining items together under the store name. An ordinary receipt does not need one overall category: its item categories contribute to spending reports. A group you create uses the category you choose for that group. Discounts, tax and other supported adjustments remain part of the saved financial details.

Accounts, income and monthly history

Higxel uses the financial records you enter to calculate balances, income totals, assets, debt and net worth. Income is stored as dated records and grouped by month. Closed months may include one balance snapshot for each financial account. Backdated changes can update affected monthly results.

Personal loans and reminders

Higxel stores the loans and repayments you enter locally and with your profile's normal backend synchronization. Loans you gave may contribute to assets and loans you took may contribute to debt, unless you exclude an individual loan from net worth. Moving a loan to history does not mark it as paid; fully repaid loans also appear in history. Higxel does not transfer money or verify that another person paid.

If you set a loan reminder, the app schedules notifications on your device for the dates and times you choose, subject to notification permission and device delivery settings. The notification can contain the person's name and remaining amount when shown on an unlocked device; lock-screen presentation follows your device settings. Reminders stop when a loan is fully paid or moved to history. Loan reminders do not require Higxel to read your payment notifications.

Account transfers

A transfer records an amount moving between two financial accounts inside Higxel and updates both tracked balances. Transfer records are kept for recovery and future history features. Higxel does not send money or connect to a bank to complete the real-world transfer.

Smart Expense Suggestions

This feature requires Google sign-in and is off by default. If you enable it and grant Android notification access, Higxel reviews supported notifications for possible expenses. It is not designed to read your complete inbox, historical SMS database or message threads. In the standard suggestions flow, a suggestion only becomes an expense after you choose to save it. The limited-access automation exception is explained below.

Expense Automation · limited-access testing

Expense Automation is not generally available in the public app. Where enabled for limited-access testing, you can create a rule only from an eligible expense suggestion. When a future payment alert matches that rule, Higxel can create an expense using the title, category, and Paid from account you selected, together with the amount and date from the new alert. You can pause or delete a rule, and you can review or undo an automatically created expense.

You remain in control

AI results, balances and insights depend on the data available to Higxel. Review important records before relying on them.

04

Google services and exports

Google sign-in is optional for guest mode and is needed for cross-device account access and Expense Suggestions. Exporting a file does not require you to connect a spreadsheet service.

Google sign-in

Authenticates you and associates cloud data with the correct Higxel profile.

Previous spreadsheet connections

New app versions no longer offer spreadsheet syncing. If you connected a spreadsheet in an older version, its identifiers, sync settings and row-matching information may remain stored with your profile. Older app versions may still use that connection until they are updated or access is removed. Updating Higxel does not automatically revoke an earlier authorization or delete rows already exported.

File export

When you choose an expense-history or account-activity export, Higxel creates an Excel file at the destination you select. Depending on the export, it may include dates, titles, categories, account names, amounts, balances and grouping information.

You can manage earlier authorizations through your Google Account third-party connections. Removing access does not automatically delete data already written to a spreadsheet or file you control, or data already stored by Higxel.

Higxel’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

05

How data is used and shared

Higxel uses information to create and restore guest or signed-in profiles; provide accounts, personal loans and reminders, income, expenses, transfers, budgets, recurring records, suggestions, limited-access Expense Automation rules where enabled, history, exports, sync and insights; enforce scan allowances and prevent misuse; improve extraction and reliability; secure the service; fix errors; and respond to support requests.

Higxel uses service providers only where needed to operate these features:

Higxel may also disclose information if required by law, to protect users or the service, as part of a business transfer where allowed, or when you direct or consent to the disclosure.

Our approachNo sale or targeted advertising

Higxel does not sell personal information or use expense, account or income records for targeted advertising.

06

Storage, security and retention

Higxel may store data on your Android device and on Higxel’s backend for both guest and signed-in profiles. Offline changes may remain on the device until they can sync. Normal Higxel cloud saving is separate from file export. If you export to a cloud file provider, that provider may upload the file under its own terms.

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. Higxel also uses authentication and cloud access controls, but no system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Expense, account, personal-loan, repayment, reminder, income, transfer, Expense Automation rule, category, settings and monthly-history data is generally kept while your Higxel profile is active, until you delete supported records, or until the profile data is deleted. Moving a loan to history keeps its record; deleting a loan removes it from the app's active records, subject to normal sync and backup retention. Guest data may remain on the backend after you exit guest mode or uninstall the app so that it can be restored on the same compatible device. Receipt images are kept only as needed for scanning, saved-record support and related app features. Voice recordings are not attached to saved records and follow the temporary handling described above. Receipt quality-comparison records are scheduled to expire after up to 90 days. Suggestions can be saved or cleared. Operational backups and logs are kept for limited recovery, security and reliability needs and then rotated or deleted.

Some copies may remain briefly in backups or where retention is required by law.
